This time for the Somerset list with two on the way down to Blake’s Pools. I’m not sure what to call that area – Yeo Estuary? Woodspring Bay? Langford Grounds? Kingston Seymour? Kingston Pill? None really fits.
But they’re certainly Somerset so the grey plover and bar-tailed godwit that I also saw are new to the county list. It’s catching up with the biggies round the 150 mark. The month list gained dunlin and turnstone, which also loitered on the acres exposed by a very low tide – not ideal conditions.
The day boded well with a couple of buzzards circling over the homestead as I left. A stop at the Kenn Estuary in Clevedon and a yomp round Wain’s Hill didn’t produce much apart from an encounter with Jason – he of Clevedon & Portishead Birds fame. Whence came the gen that the buntings were still around after two weeks. So my next stop was a no-brainer.
