Here’s one good side-effect of the leaves blowing off the trees. When a darkish robin-shaped bird lands on a branch, one can get the bins on it and identify it as a handsome male black redstart, no trouble. The tree in question is just across from me as I type and as shown in the picture.
I had one bird in the houses off to the right of this shot of Phoenix Way last winter and one by Battery Point, which most folk connected with. The birds seem to like Portishead! Perhaps it’s memories of the old power station (one of their favoured sites) that draws them back.
